Superfruits For Your Health
Next time you take a trip to the grocery store or local farmers market, think about adding superfruits to your shopping list. What makes a fruit “super?” They are packed with antioxidants and nutrients beyond their common fruit and veggie relatives. Here’s our list of top superfruits for your health:
Pomegranate
Studies show that this superfruit has around 600 seeds which contain about three times the total antioxidants in green tea and red wine. Eat the fruit whole or try it in a juice.
Acai Berry
Grown in rainforests in South America, this dark berry has been shown to have twice the antioxidants found in blueberries, as well as tons of omega fatty acids, protein and fiber. An acai berry smoothie is perfect to help cool down on a hot day.
Avocado
Let’s set things straight — avocado is a fruit, not a veggie like some may think. Known as the key ingredient in guacamole, avocados contain healthy monounsaturated fat which has been linked to a reduced risk of cancer, heart disease, and diabetes.
Blueberry
A handful of blueberries is the perfect refreshing snack, especially when on-the-go. They’re loaded with antioxidants and have also been linked to anti-aging, improved vision, and brain function.
Cranberries
Enjoy this fruit year-round, not just during the holidays. Cranberries are brimming with antioxidants that protect cells against compounds called free radicals.
Kiwi
If you feel a cold coming on, pick up a couple of kiwi fruit. They are known to contain more vitamin C than oranges and just as much potassium as bananas. Who knew?
Now it’s your turn. Leave a comment and let us know what your favorite superfruits are.
